What Is In Chipotle Lime Marinade?

To make this recipe, there are a total of nine ingredients that are whisked together.

  • Diced chipotle peppers.
  • Lime juice.
  • Avocado oil.
  • Garlic.
  • Agave syrup.
  • Mexican oregano.
  • Cumin.
  • Sea salt.
  • Pepper.

Ingredient Substitutions

There are a few substitutions that can be made if you can’t find or don’t have some of the ingredients for this recipe.

The diced chipotle peppers can be found in the international aisles of some grocery stores. If you can’t find them, they can be replaced with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. These peppers will need to be diced.

Olive oil can be used in place of avocado oil.

Honey can be added instead of agave syrup, but replace it with only half the amount of honey. Agave syrup is not as sweet as honey.

Mexican oregano is our go-to for most of our recipes because we prefer the flavour, but if you don’t have it you can use marjoram.

How To Use This Marinade

Once all the ingredients are whisked together, simply place meat in the marinade and stir to coat.

This marinade is perfect for chicken. Add chicken breasts or thighs to the marinade, cover and refrigerate for minimum 1 hour. For best results, allow to marinate overnight.

Another way to use this marinade is for beef. Allow beef to marinate for minimum 1 hour. We like to marinade steak and use it for fajitas.

We have also used it for shrimp. When it comes to shrimp, it should only be marinated for 15-20 minutes. Shrimp is delicate and will fall apart if left any longer.

Can Marinade Be Made Ahead Of Time?

Yes, this marinade can be made ahead and stored in a mason jar in the fridge. It will last up to 2 days in the fridge before using.

We sometimes make this marinade ahead of time to marinate chicken later in the week.
