This year Mother’s Day may look different than ever before. For the second year in a row, we may not be celebrating Mother’s day with our mothers in person. Depending on where you live, you may have to change how you celebrate. There are still great ways to celebrate your Mom without a huge celebration. There are lots of great ideas for Mother’s Day gifts that you can send or deliver to your Mom, that aren’t flowers. So if you are looking for ideas here are some Mother’s Day gift ideas for 2021.
Meal Ideas
Get it Delivered
You can make a meal and deliver it to your Mom yourself. If you are lucky enough to be able to see your Mom this year, you can enjoy that meal with her.
There are many restaurant delivery options now that you can more than likely find your Mom’s favourite restaurant online and have a meal delivered directly to her door. This is a great idea for those who are still social distancing, as well as those locations that are under a lock-down or Stay At Home order.
There are also many meal kit delivery options out there. If your Mom likes to cook, these meal kits are great because everything is pre-portioned and usually take no more than 30-45 minutes to prepare. You can have 3 meals delivered weekly and can cancel at any time, meaning you can gift 1 week of meals or keep them going as long as you want. Weeks can be skipped as well. Meal Kit Delivery is also perfect for a first time or new mom. Our favourites for meal delivery are Chef’s Plate and Good Food. (Not sponsored or affiliated with either company)
Picnic in the Park
A picnic in a local park or even the back yard is a great idea for enjoying time with your Mom. You can enjoy lunch, dinner or even breakfast outdoors.
Some easy recipes to try that pack well for a picnic: Espresso Brownies, Buttermilk Blueberry Muffins, Blueberry Lemon Loaf, Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Muffins.
You can pack your picnic in a cooler or a picnic basket.
And a picnic blanket to sit on
Even if you can’t be with your mom for Mother’s Day, you can pack a picnic and drop it off to her on her doorstep. Then the picnic can take place virtually. This is a great idea for large families as well, who can all meet online together and enjoy a meal together while apart.
Online Shopping
Amazon has some great gift ideas that you can have shipped directly to your mother. There are many items to choose from on their site.
Indigo also has many Mother’s Day gift ideas. From books to wellness gifts, there are so many items to choose from.
Below are some of my favourites.
Book Lovers Gift Ideas
Many book lovers enjoy a gift card for a local book store where they can browse through 1000’s of books and choose the one they like. But there are other ideas for those who love to read.
If your mother likes to take books wherever she goes, an e reader is a great gift idea. There are a few to choose from that will allow your Mom to take her favourite books wherever she goes. It is easier to carry around than a pile of books. Some even link to your local library so you can borrow books.
There are many accessories for Kindle and Kobo devices as well. Both of these e readers also offer monthly subscriptions where certain books are available for unlimited reading possibilities.
Book Marks are a perfect accessory for those who read a lot. They can be inspirational, funny or serious. A bookmark can be used instead of a greeting card. They have sayings on them like a card, you can sign the back and your mom can use it everyday, unlike a card that usually gets put away or thrown out.
For Mothers who enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while reading.
How about a personalised book for Mom. These books are personalised by you to make them a unique gift.
Wine Drinkers Gifts Ideas
Wine glasses are perfect ways to express yourself.
Or a Gift set
For Moms who like to Bake
If your Mom likes to bake, there are many ideas for bakers that are not baking pans.
For Mom and Child, matching aprons are great for little ones to help out in the kitchen.
Mothers who like to BBQ (or eat BBQ)
There was a time when the barbecuing was left up to the men. I remember as a kid, my dad did the grilling and my mom cooked indoors. Mom was in charge of salads, Dad grilled the meat and potatoes on the BBQ. Now women barbecue too and it is becoming more popular to see women cooking outdoors alongside the men. If your mom is into BBQ, here are some gift ideas for her.
BBQ cookbooks written by women. Diva Q, also known as Danielle Benet, is one of the most popular in Canada and her cookbook is amazing. There are also other great female BBQers out there for inspiration.
A good BBQ thermometer is always needed when grilling. This is one is our favourite because it can use up to 6 probes at the same time. It is also Bluetooth and it connects easily to our phones giving us the freedom to do other things while smoking brisket or pork butts.
A personalised cutting board is another great gift idea. There are many to choose from on Amazon.
A gift basket filled with spices, rubs, sauces and marinades makes a great gift as well. Some products to add to basket:
Add some accessories to finish off the basket:
BBQ subscriptions are also available. These subscriptions can be monthly or bi-monthly. You can subscribe to a one or two month delivery and up to one year. In Canada, Griller’s Paradise offers some great products and subscription options. (We are not sponsored or affiliated with Griller’s Paradise)
Instead of Flowers
If your mother is a gardener, beautiful plants are an alternative to flowers. And plants last longer than fresh flowers.
Easy to care for plants make great gifts. Whether they are for indoors or outside. One of my favourites that my kids bought me is coleus. It is a beautiful, colourful plant for outdoors but I bring it indoors in the colder months and it has been growing for two years. If you live in a warmer climate, then the plant can remain outdoors, adding colour to any garden.
Cactus plants are also easy to maintain and make a great gift. They can be grouped together in one large pot or planted in smaller pots of bright colours to add to any decor.
