Smoker Blueberry Peach Pie

Fresh ripe peaches and blueberries make up the filling of this Smoker Blueberry Peach Pie that is baked on a smoker.

Although we bake this pie almost exclusively on the smoker, it can also be baked in the oven for almost the same results. It will lack the smoke flavour but it’s still tasty.

Ingredients For Blueberry Peach Pie

With only seven ingredients, this pie is very easy to make.

  • Blueberries. Fresh blueberries are used in this recipe.
  • Peaches. Only fresh peaches have been tested for this pie.
  • White sugar.
  • Flour.
  • Lemon juice.
  • Vanilla Extract.
  • Pie crust. A double crust is how this pie is made. We usually use frozen pie crust because of the convenience, but homemade pie crust can also be used.

The Top Crust

A note about the top crust. We like to get creative with it. Sometimes we use the whole crust and cut slits in it.

Other times we do a weave or cross strips of dough over the top. This way the peaches and blueberries can be seen inside.

What Kind Of Smoke For This Pie

We have made this pie using both a wood smoker and a pellet smoker. Both work well for smoking pies.

Mostly we use apple wood for smoking pies, and we have had success with cherry wood. Both these woods complement the fruits in this pie.

When using the pellet smoker, we have also had great results using competition blend pellets because they tend to pair well with just about any flavour.

Tips For Baking Pie On The Smoker

A smoker works like an oven in the sense that it can keep a steady heat, especially a pellet smoker. So baking using a smoker is very easy.

Unlike the oven, to bake this pie the temperature is kept steady instead of a higher temperature at the beginning and then lowered.

To bake a pie in the smoker, I like to put a baking sheet in the smoker while it preheats. The pan will help quickly cook the bottom crust when the pie is placed on it to cook.

Does This Pie Have To Be Smoked?

The short answer is no. This pie can be made in an oven instead. If using the oven the pie will lack the smokiness it gets from the smoker.

Another way to bake this pie is using a BBQ. We have tested this method of baking and had great results. To bake on the BBQ, it is best to use indirect heat, and we like to lift the pie off the grates using an upside-down cake pan or muffin tin.

Serving Smoked Blueberry Peach Pie

For best results, allow the pie to cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Blueberry Peach Pie can be served warm or cold. Our favourite way to serve it is warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Storing Leftover Pie

Once cooled, Blueberry Peach Pie should be covered and stored in the fridge for up to three days.

This pie can also be stored in an air-tight container and frozen for up to three months.
