Asian Pork Marinade

Asian Pork Marinade

Pork is one of the most barbecued meats in our backyard, next to chicken. It is versatile and our whole family loves it. This Asian Pork Marinade is used a lot because it adds great flavor to the meat. This is one of our go-to marinades for pork chops and pork tenderloin before grilling.

Asian Pork

It is easy to make, using only one bowl. Our teenagers can make this marinade with no difficulty at all. They have been mixing this up for a few years on their own so they probably have the recipe memorized by now.

We have used this marinade on chicken as well. It adds not only flavor but makes the meat juicy.

This marinade is also great for making pork tacos. We double the marinade recipe, then set half aside to make the sauce. Grill the pork, slice it into thin slices, add the pork to small tortillas, drizzle with the sauce, and top with Apple Coleslaw. The flavors go really well together.

Reduce To Make a Sauce

It also makes a great sauce when it is simmered to reduce. Simply add marinade to a saucepan and simmer until reduced by half and thickened. Make sure to stir often to avoid sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Once reduced, it makes a great basting sauce for marinated pork.

This marinade, once reduced and cooled can be stored in a mason jar in the fridge for up to one week.

It adds flavor to pork burgers when added to ground pork before cooking.

Ingredients Used

The recipe calls for red chili sauce. We use Sambal Oelek, but whatever red chili sauce you have on hand can be used.

To cut down on the time needed to prepare this marinade, we use jarred minced garlic and ginger. It saves time but minced fresh garlic and grated fresh ginger can be used.

A couple of dashes of hot sauce can also be added to turn up the heat. Our son likes to add Sriracha or Frank’s Red Hot Sauce to the marinade when he makes it.

Make Ahead

The marinade can be made ahead of time and stored in a mason jar for use within a few days. This makes it great for meal planning because you can make it on the weekend and use it later in the week.

We have also added the marinade to the pork and placed it in freezer bags before freezing, then the pork marinates while thawing out. This is usually done when we are going camping so that we don’t have to bring extra ingredients with us. The pork and marinade stay frozen in the cooler until ready to use, then we cook it over an open fire.
