Ingredients For This Recipe

In this recipe, you will find 9 easy ingredients.

  • Jalapenos. This is where the heat is added. More or less jalapenos can be added depending on how spicy you want the sauce.
  • Cilantro. Fresh cilantro is used for colour and a crisp fresh flavour.
  • Green Onions. These add colour as well as a touch of flavour.
  • Mayonnaise. Full-fat mayonnaise is used to make this sauce because it adds thickness to the sauce. Low-fat mayo can also be used for a thinner sauce.
  • Yogurt. Plain full-fat yogurt is our go-to and we have made it with Greek yogurt as well. We tend to use whatever yogurt we have on hand.
  • Garlic. It enhances the other flavours of the sauce.
  • Limes. The sourness of the limes is needed to balance out the flavour of the sauce.
  • Salt. Our go-to is sea salt but we have also prepared this with Kosher salt.
  • Pepper. Freshly ground pepper adds a hint of spiciness.

Do You Need Special Equipment To Make Cilantro Jalapeno Sauce?

To make this sauce, a blender is needed. The ingredients need to be pureed together to make this sauce creamy.

We have also made this recipe in a food processor with pretty good results, but the blender seems to be the best way to blend everything together.

How To Use Creamy Cilantro Jalapeno Sauce

There are many uses for this creamy sauce.

  • Grilled Chicken. Pour this sauce over grilled chicken. Our favourite chicken to use this sauce on is Peruvian Grilled Chicken. But it also goes well with TexMex or similar flavours.
  • Fish Tacos. This sauce is delicious on fish tacos, especially grilled fish tacos with a slice or two of avocado.
  • Coleslaw. Use this sauce in coleslaw in place of regular coleslaw dressing to bring new flavours to the table.
  • Salad. As a salad dressing, this sauce adds a ton of flavour to any salad.
  • Chicken Skewers. Serve this sauce on the side for dipping chicken skewers in.
  • Poached Eggs. Creamy Cilantro Jalapeno Sauce can be used in place of Hollandaise sauce for a twist on Eggs Benedict.

Can This Sauce Be Made Ahead?

Yes! This sauce is best made a couple of hours before using. The flavours come together while the sauce sits. We like to make it at least two hours before using it.

How To Store Creamy Cilantro Jalapeno Sauce

Store the sauce in a mason jar in the fridge for up to two weeks. We don’t recommend freezing the sauce because it contains mayonnaise which tends to separate when frozen.
