Ingredients For Apple Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce

This recipe is quick, easy and made with 10 ingredients you may already have on hand. These ingredients add all flavours to the sauce: sweet, salty, acid, and umami.

  • Apple Juice. This is where the apple flavour comes in. Apple juice is the main ingredient.
  • Brown Sugar. Along with the juice, brown sugar adds sweetness to balance the flavours and it complements the taste of the apple juice.
  • Ketchup. The base of many BBQ sauces, ketchup is used for this recipe.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar. An acid that cuts some of the sweetness from the sauce.
  • Worcestershire Sauce. Adding this ingredient to BBQ sauce adds umami because of its combination of flavours.
  • Chili Powder, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder are the spices that round out the flavours and add the taste of BBQ to the sauce.
  • Salt. The last ingredient to balance all the flavours.

How To Use Apple Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce

This BBQ sauce can be used in any way that you would usually use BBQ sauce. There are some dishes that this sauce goes really well with.

  • Pulled Pork. Apple and pork go really good together so this sauce is perfect for pulled pork sandwiches.
  • Pork Loins. This is a cut of meat that dries out fairly quickly when cooking, so we brine it and apply BBQ Sauce while it cooks. Try this sauce on our Apple Cider Brined Pork Loin.
  • Turkey. Use this sauce to baste turkey while it cooks, especially on the BBQ.
  • Brisket. Slather this sauce on brisket sandwiches.

Can This Recipe Be Doubled?

Absolutely, and we actually recommend making extra, especially in the summer. We sometimes make triple and quadruple batches of this sauce to have on hand.

It takes less than 30 minutes to make this sauce but we like to have it on hand just the same. It lasts in the fridge for up to one month.

We also sometimes make large batches to fill 4 ounce mason jars and give as gifts.
