Ingredients For Chili Beer Brats

This recipe combines two of our popular recipes, Chili and Grilled Beer Brats. To make this recipe, you will need a few ingredients.

  • Bratwurst. These German sausages are perfect with beer. Our favourite is Johnsonville Brats.
  • Beer. Any beer will work for this recipe. We usually use what we have on hand. Just make sure to use a beer that you like because of you don’t like the taste of a beer when drinking it, odds are you won’t like the taste in cooking either.
  • Onions. For this recipe, we like to use white onions because of their sweetness and mild flavour.
  • Chili. This can be homemade or canned. Also you can use a chili with or without beans. Our preference is without.
  • Sausage Buns. Use your favourite sausage buns.
  • Cheese. We like to use a sharp cheddar but other varieties can be used like Monterey Jack.

Equipment for Making Beer Brats

The brats are cooked in the beer on the BBQ, so we like to use a heavy pot to cook them in like a cast iron Dutch oven.

An aluminum pan can also be used for making the brats. This makes an easier clean up.

Toppings For Chili Beer Brats

There are many toppings you can add to these.

  • Diced jalapenos.
  • Cheese sauce.
  • Crushed tortilla chips.
  • Mustard.
  • Diced white onions.
  • Pickled jalapenos.

How To Serve Chili Beer Brats

When it comes to serving these beer brats, they are best served hot and fresh.

We like to serve them with a side of tortilla chips and salsa. And they pair well with an ice cold beer, like Corona or a German beer.

These brats can be served buffet-style with a variety of toppings and side dishes to compliment the flavours. Additional chili, queso, potato salad and coleslaw are just a few things that can be served with these brats.

What To Do With Leftover Chili Brats

If you have leftover sausages and chili they can be stored separately in the fridge to put together later. They will keep in the fridge for up to three days.
