Mom’s blue juice is what my kids call one of my favourite alcoholic drinks. It is actually known Sex In The Driveway, a refreshing alcoholic drink, that I have come to love. This drink is perfect for a hot summer afternoon or after dinner on the patio and goes great with a barbecue.
My Favourite Summer Drink
When it comes to alcoholic drinks, fruity and sweet are my favourites. Beer is not on my list of preferred drinks unless it is a Corona with lime. And I am always on the lookout for something new.
I came across this drink on Pinterest one day and decided it looked pretty and was worth a try. I headed to the local LCBO store (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) to buy Blue Curacao and Peach Schnapps. That evening after the kids went to bed, I made myself a drink and the rest is history. This drink became my year-round drink, but I enjoy it most in the summer.
Sweet and Refreshing
If you like a sweet drink with a hint of lemon, then this is the drink for you. Made with lemon vodka, Blue Curacao, Peach Schnapps, and lemon-lime soda, this drink is a refreshing drink on a summer day or evening.
Unflavoured vodka can be used in place of lemon vodka. I have made this drink with either one with great results. When using unflavoured vodka, I will sometimes add a squeeze of fresh lemon to the drink.
Sprite or 7-up are good choices for lemon-lime soda. I have also used our Soda Stream to make the soda. I have not personally tasted this drink with diet soda but I have heard of people using it.
Sex in the Driveway makes a perfect girls’ night drink. What better way to spend a girls’ night in the summer than with a sweet, bright blue drink?
But be forewarned, there are 3 types of alcohol in this drink, 3½ oz of alcohol altogether, so this drink can pack a punch depending on the size of glass you use. The best thing is that you don’t taste the alcohol.
Ice Trick To Avoid A Watered-Down Drink
One trick I have been using is for the ice in the drink. Sometimes I get busy, especially when we are hosting a BBQ, and the ice melts quickly, making the drink watery. So I started making ice out of lemonade. This also adds a bit more lemony flavour as it melts without watering down the drink.
Sometimes, I also add a couple of drops of blue food colouring to the ice. Then the drink keeps its bright blue colour as the ice melts.
For another great drink to serve, try our Pineapple Rum Slush, which is also perfect for a hot summer evening or BBQ party.
