Ingredients For Easy Homemade Waffles
This easy to make recipe has nine ingredients:
- Eggs. Large eggs at room temperature.
- Heavy Cream. This makes the waffles rich and fluffy. It can be replaced with and equal amount of whole milk.
- Milk. Whole or 2% milk is what we use.
- Vanilla Extract.
- White Sugar.
- All-purpose flour.
- Baking powder.
- Salt.
- Melted butter. Cool the butter slightly before adding to the batter.
Tips For Making Waffles
Although these are very easy to make, these tips will help you get the best waffles.
- Waffle iron. No matter which kind of waffle iron you have, it is important that it is preheated before adding the batter. I usually turn it on and let it heat while I make the batter.
- Don’t overmix the batter. Stir it until all ingredients are just blended together.
- Melt the butter before starting the recipe so it has time to cool before adding to the batter.
All waffle irons are different, so we do recommend that you follow the instructions that came with your appliance for cooking the waffles. We use a Cuisinart Waffle maker and this recipe makes 7 large waffles and takes about 3-4 minutes to cook each waffle.
How to Serve Waffles
Waffles are great on their own with a little maple syrup but they can also be dressed up for special occasions or just because.
- Whipped cream and berries. This is how we serve these for Mother’s Day brunch. We use homemade whipped cream and fresh berries.
- Berries and confectioner’s sugar. Top with berries and sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar for a light tasting breakfast.
- Chicken strips. We love chicken and waffles and turn these waffles into chicken sandwiches using the waffles as the buns and filling them with chicken tenders.
Storing Leftover Waffles
When I make this recipe, I like to double it so there are leftovers. To store leftovers, let the waffles completely cool first. Then store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the toaster, microwave or oven.
Homemade waffles can also be frozen. After cooling, place the waffles in a freezer bag or air-tight freezer safe container, and freeze for up to 3 months. These can be reheated without thawing in the toaster or microwave.
