Ingredients For Sweet and Spicy Gochujang Sauce

To make this sauce, eight ingredients will be needed.

  • Ketchup. This is the base of the sauce. Any brand of ketchup will work.
  • Gochujang. A thick paste made from red chilies, this is the spic in the sauce.
  • Honey. Local honey is our go-to for all our recipes. Honey adds sweetness but also helps hold the sauce together without it becoming too thin.
  • Brown Sugar. Another sweetener that balances out the spiciness of the gochujang paste.
  • Soy Sauce. Adding saltiness to the sauce helps balance the overall flavours of the sauce.
  • Garlic. It complements the chilis in the gochujang paste.
  • Sesame Oil. A little of this ingredient goes a long way. Sesame oil can have a very strong flavour so measure it carefully.
  • Rice Wine Vinegar. A small amount of acid is added to balance out the heat and sweet.

Where To Buy Gochujang Paste?

There is a Korean Market near us where we buy our gochujang paste. They have many different brands and package sizes. If you have a similar market, we suggest that is where to buy gochujang.

If not, Gochujang can be found in many grocery stores in the international aisles. It is also available on Amazon.

How To Use Sweet And Spicy Gochujang Sauce

Sweet and Spicy Gochujang Sauce is a staple in our house. We use it as a sauce mostly for fried chicken, but there are other ways we use it as well.

Using it as a dip is great for chicken tenders and nuggets. It can be served warm or cold for dipping.

This sauce is perfect for grilled or fried chicken wings as well. Coat wings in the sauce for sticky, sweet and spicy wings.

Serve Gochujang sauce over sliced grilled pork tenderloin or sliced beef.

We have used this sauce to make beef and broccoli.
